The B&R Publishing Cooperation Forum and Publishing Cooperation Seminar for Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Countries was held at Renmin University of China (RUC) on June 18, 2026. Centered on the theme “SCO Books: Translating Civilizations, Connecting Cultures”, the event was jointly organized by China Renmin University Press and Qingdao Publishing Group.
More than 100 representatives from over 30 publishing houses, media organizations, and related institutions across SCO member countries gathered together to discuss publishing cooperation, copyright exchange, translation of classic works, and mutual learning among civilizations.

Ma Huaide, president of RUC, noted that this year marks the 13th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He emphasized that the world today needs intellectual guidance and sincere dialogue, and that publishing serves as an important cultural bridge for fostering mutual understanding among peoples.
Ma highlighted RUC’s commitment to advancing human progress and promoting global harmony. As the first university press established in the People’s Republic of China and a leading force in humanities and social sciences publishing, China Renmin University Press initiated the Publishing Cooperative for Belt and Road Partner Countries, pioneering a distinctive approach that promotes knowledge sharing through academic publishing.
He added that RUC is ready to work with partners to deepen the translation of classic works, cultivate publishing professionals, and embrace digital transformation.

Several publishing cooperation achievements and agreements were unveiled during the event. China Renmin University Press signed copyright agreements with Eurasia-Astana Publishing House of Kazakhstan for the Kazakh-language edition of The Origins of Chinese Economics and the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System, and with Silk Road Publishing House of Uzbekistan for the Uzbek-language edition of Comprehensively Promoting Rural Revitalization.
The forum also witnessed the release of a series of Chinese-Kyrgyz translated works. Over the past three years, China Renmin University Press has facilitated the two-way translation and publication of 17 outstanding Chinese and Kyrgyz titles.
Two themed books, Timeless Treasures: The World Heritage List of SCO Member States and Pearls of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, were also released during the event. China Renmin University Press and Qingdao Publishing Group also signed a memorandum of understanding to further deepen their cooperation.
The Publishing Cooperative for Belt and Road Partner Countries announced its latest achievements. It now includes 331 member organizations from 61 countries and regions and has facilitated the overseas publication of more than 15,000 China-themed books.

During the event, China Renmin University Press and Qingdao Publishing Group, together with dozens of publishing houses from SCO countries, jointly launched the Publishing Cooperative for Shanghai Cooperation Organization Countries Initiative. Under the framework of the Publishing Cooperative for Belt and Road Partner Countries, it aims to create platforms for book trade, copyright exchange, digital publishing technology cooperation, and talent development, while promoting the translation and international dissemination of high-quality publications.
