In April 2026, the RUC-UC Joint Research Centre for China-Portugal Civilizational Exchanges and Mutual Learning was jointly established by Renmin University of China (RUC) and the University of Coimbra. At the inauguration ceremony, Huaide Ma, President of Renmin University of China, Yirui Yang, Chinese Ambassador to Portugal, and João Nuno Calvão da Silva, Vice-Rector of the University of Coimbra, delivered remarks and jointly unveiled the center. The center will draw on the distinctive disciplinary strengths of RUC and the University of Coimbra, with the goal of serving as a specialized academic research institution, a hub for talent cultivation, and a platform for cultural and people-to-people exchange. It is committed to building a solid bridge for China-Portugal academic dialogue, expanding bilateral cooperation to Portuguese-speaking countries, and fostering closer cultural exchange between China and the wider world, thereby advancing exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.
