On the first weekend of December, the biennial Forum of Young Scholars of the Institute of Qing History was held at Renmin University of China. The forum attracted many young scholars and teachers in the study of Qing history, who had heated discussions on cutting-edge issues in the study of Qing history such as "politics and system", "economy and geography", and "society and culture". What makes this academic forum different is that it was organized and hosted by the members of the Qingfeng Student Society.
Founded in December 2003, Qingfeng Student Society is an academic society run by students under the guidance of the Institute of Qing History of Renmin University of China. At the beginning, Dai Yi, Li Wenhai and other leading figures of Qing history served as academic advisers of it. After years of development, the Qingfeng Student Society has been deeply integrated into the whole system of teaching, research and operation of the Institute of Qing History, which is an important center of the Qing history study at home and abroad. In the past 20 years, it has not only produced a group of outstanding young scholars, but also exerted an important influence on their academic attitude and academic character.
Ma Zimu, who graduated from Renmin University of China and is now an associate professor at the School of History of Nankai University, submitted his first paper to the Young Scholars Forum as an undergraduate in 2013, and his article was not only selected but later published in Studies in Qing History, which is the authoritative journal of Qing history research.
The Society has an internal academic journal independently compiled and published by students, called "Qingfeng Journal", which was also founded in 2003. The first volume of the first issue was an interview with Professor Kong Feili of Harvard University, a giant of history. The standards of "Qingfeng Journal" in all aspects are the same as those of the authoritative journals published by the academic community.
Many of the graduate students who wrote in this booklet have now grown into the backbone of the academic community. For example, Liu Yuewu, professor of the School of History and Culture of Henan University, Han Xiang, professor of the Center for Chinese Social History of Shanxi University, and Hu Heng, professor of the Institute of Qing History of Renmin University of China, all published their papers in the Journal of Qingfeng when they were students.
Except for the forum and journal, Qingfeng Student Society has organized Manchu literature classes in rencent years, which is of great help to students to carry out research on the political history of the early Qing Dynasty. Zhang Xinyu, now a post-doctoral student in the School of Economics of Peking University and a 2015 master student in the Institute of Qing History, has always insisted on Manchu language teaching before her doctoral graduation, attracting students from both inside and outside the school, including international students from Korea, Russia, Japan and other countries to participate in the class, and has been written into academic journals as a typical case of Manchu language teaching in society.
In the past 20 years, the Qingfeng Student Society has made a lot of academic achievements, and the young scholars in RUC will continue to work hard in the academic field.
