The delegation of Korea University led by Prof. Chuck YOO, Executive Vice President for Research, visited Renmin University of China (RUC) on Dec. 15th.
Qi Pengfei, Vice Chair of the University Council, and Zheng Xinye, Vice President of RUC, met with Prof. Chuck YOO. Also present were Prof. Sang Kee Song, Vice President for International Affairs and Ms. Myunghwa Jeon, Associate Director, Office of International Affairs (China).
Qi Pengfei first extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced the history and development of RUC, as well as the construction of the new campus in Tongzhou, Beijing. He reviewed the history of exchange and cooperation between the two universities and the achievements made. He expressed that the two universities have complementary strengths in humanities and social sciences, and they can deepen cooperation in disciplines such as history, law, and economics, and jointly build a more comprehensive, in-depth, and stable cooperative relationship in the future.
Zheng Xinye stated that RUC attaches great importance to the long-standing friendship and partnership between the two universities and is willing to further upgrade the exchange and cooperation mechanism to promote cultural exchanges between China and South Korea through academic exchanges. He proposed that, based on the existing foundation of cooperation, the two universities can focus on joint research on topics of common concern to East Asian countries, such as energy security, climate change, population aging, and the social impact of artificial intelligence. He also suggested exploring the possibility of jointly organizing academic forums with other top Asian universities.
Prof. Chuck YOO thanked RUC for its hospitality and highly praised the history of cooperation between the two universities. He expressed that the close cooperation between the two universities over the years should be inherited and continued, and the level of cooperation should be elevated to new heights. He proposed jointly exploring efficient ways of utilizing the innovative International Cultural Exchange Center to facilitate close personnel exchanges and strengthen academic communication between the two universities. Korea University is willing to deepen academic cooperation with RUC based on their respective strengths and jointly create branded research projects.
Representatives from both universities held in-depth discussions on cooperation matters such as establishing a research seed fund and promoting scholar exchanges.
Before the meeting, the delegation from Korea University visited the exhibition on the history of RUC in the University Museum, gaining a deeper understanding of its historical evolution and development achievements. They were accompanied by Li Zhenshi, the curator of the museum. In addition, the delegation also visited the International Cultural Exchange Center.
