14th AAERE Conference convenes at RUC, focusing on climate resilience in Asia

The 14th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (AAERE) was held at Renmin University of China on August 26-27. Co-hosted by the university's School of Environment and Natural Resources and AAERE, the conference united over 150 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries.

Themed "Enhancing Economic and Ecological Resilience under Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities for Asia", the conference facilitated discussions on critical issues such as environmental governance, carbon neutrality strategies, and green transition policies. The goal was to strengthen cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing in the field.

The opening ceremony featured addresses from AAERE President Kenichi Akao of Waseda University and Professor Wang Ke, vice dean of the host school. They highlighted the conference's role as a vital platform for academic exchange and addressing Asia's unique climate and developmental challenges.

The event included keynote speeches from leading international scholars and a rich program of parallel sessions, themed forums, and poster presentations. Topics ranged from utilization of sustainable resources, climate cooperation to environmental impacts of trade.

On the afternoon of August 27, the Climate and Energy Roundtable took place. Keynote speeches were delivered by Jiang Tong, an academician of the European Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences and a professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and Yang Xiu, director at Tsinghua University's Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

They focused on energy-meteorology coupling and energy transition pathways for carbon neutrality. The event gathered government officials, scholars, and business leaders to discuss climate risk, energy collaboration, and carbon neutrality technologies. He Xiaojia, a professor at Renmin University of China, chaired the session.

The closing ceremony was held on August 27. Kenichi Akao and Pang Jun, Dean of the School of Environment and Natural Resources at Renmin University of China, attended and delivered speeches.
