The journey of Spanish graduate Pablo Sabio to China began with a documentary on the Belt and Road Initiative, which inspired him to pursue a master's degree in International Relations at Renmin University of China (RUC).
Born in Leganés, near Madrid, Pablo first encountered Chinese philosophy at the age of 13 when his teacher gave him a copy of The Art of War. He was profoundly impressed by its focus on practical wisdom and problem-solving. Upon his arrival at RUC, he was instantly drawn to the university's motto, "Seek Truth from Facts", which continues to guide his academic and personal growth.

Immersing himself in Chinese philosophy, Pablo has observed its significant influence on everyday life, particularly the emphasis on harmony in social and family relationships. He contrasts this with Western individualism, reflecting that collective responsibility plays a crucial role in long-term social cohesion.
"Chinese people place great emphasis on harmony in relationships. Even when facing disagreements, they express opinions politely," he notes, linking this to the Confucian principle of moderation and balance.
Driven by a passion for cross-cultural understanding, Pablo founded Gelatina in 2023, a cultural exchange organization that connects Spanish-speaking students with Chinese peers. He personally designed promotional materials and utilized social media to engage participants.
Today, Gelatina unites students from 15 Spanish-speaking countries, including Spain, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Nicaragua.
"Face-to-face exchanges allow participants to understand the values and perspectives behind different cultures. Only through real interaction can cross-cultural understanding and trust be built," Pablo explains.

Pablo Sabio shares the story of Gelatina at the HICOOL Global Entrepreneurs Summit 2024 in Beijing.
In August 2024, Pablo shared Gelatina's story at the HICOOL Global Entrepreneurs Summit in Beijing. "Many international students feel isolated when they first arrive in China. Our activities help them integrate, build friendships with Chinese students and gain a better understanding of Chinese society," he says.

Gelatina hosts an offline cultural exchange event in Beijing, uniting students from China and Spanish-speaking countries.
Looking ahead, Pablo hopes to expand Gelatina to more cities across China, hosting cross-cultural lectures and events to help international students thrive both socially and academically.
