The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has released part of its 2025 project review results. Renmin University of China (RUC) saw an 11.2 percent increase in funded projects compared to last year. Notably, the Young Scientists Fund (Category B) reached a five-year high in approved projects, while Category C projects grew by 52.3 percent year on year.
RUC remains committed to aligning its research management with national development strategies, employing a seven-focus approach — strengthening early-stage preparation, improving process quality, accelerating completion, enhancing impact, supporting team development, promoting interdisciplinary innovation and ensuring effective funding use. Guided by the principles of service and innovation, the university is deepening a dual-engine model that encourages both free academic exploration and goal-oriented collaboration.
The university is also accelerating interdisciplinary integration by forming research teams around major strategic themes, creating advanced academic platforms for young scholars and fostering scholarly communities with a global outlook. By translating China‘s strategic priorities into concrete research objectives, RUC encourages young researchers to develop innovative solutions from a Chinese perspective to address global challenges.
RUC is further building a comprehensive framework for research and innovation by establishing mission-oriented platforms that leverage disciplinary strengths and respond to national strategies and industry needs. The university is strengthening key laboratories, think tanks, innovation hubs and research institutes, forming an integrated social science laboratory system that provides robust infrastructure and collaborative support for researchers.
At the same time, RUC is cultivating a healthy and high-quality research ecosystem by optimizing project management, simplifying application procedures and introducing classification-based and long-term evaluations to inspire innovation and enhance performance. In addition, the university has long been a champion of research integrity and academic rigor, encouraging scholars to pursue truth and excellence and to advance steadily on the path of research.
