About RUC

Shenzhen Research Institute

Building on the legacy of Yan'an and embracing the pioneering spirit of China's Special Economic Zones, Renmin University of China established its Shenzhen Research Institute in May 2002.

Created with support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the institute operates as a comprehensive platform integrating industry, academia and research.

In October 2023, the university expanded this foundation to create the Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (Shenzhen), marking a new phase in its partnership with Shenzhen and opening another chapter of growth and innovation.

Drawing on the university's outstanding faculty and academic strengths, the institute conducts research, provides professional services, facilitates international cooperation, and develops talent in Shenzhen.

Its mission is to create an influential hub for talent and innovation that serves the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area while having global impact.

At the heart of the institute's work is the Research Base for Chinese Modernization Practices in Shenzhen, established with the Qianhai Cooperation Zone. The institute hosts nine specialized research centers: Center for International Rule of Law and Development, Center for Intellectual Property and Innovation,

Center for Talent Strategy and Governance, Data Elements Research and Development Center, Digital Economy Research Center, Global Policy Coordination Center, Government Statistics Modernization Center, Applied Mathematics Center (Shenzhen) and Basic Education Research Center.

It also collaborates in establishing research institutions such as:

Shenzhen Institute for Advanced Finance, Shenzhen Institute for Development and Strategy (housing the Hongpeng Youth Entrepreneurship Center for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area), Chenghai Institute for Advanced Studies in Global Development and Security (Shenzhen) and Center for Chinese Public Policy and National Development.

Together, these form our research network — nine internal centers and five collaborative institutes.

Based in Bao'an district, we are committed to working with Shenzhen to explore new approaches and set new standards in higher education. We will continue to drive forward China's educational development, and support the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area initiative.
