Founded in September 2005, the School of History at Renmin University of China comprises the Department of History, the Institute of Qing History, the Department of Archaeology and Museology, and two dedicated research institutes.

The school boasts a distinguished faculty of more than 80 dedicated scholars, including leading experts and a dynamic group of mid-career and early-career researchers whose work spans diverse fields of historical study. Their research excellence has earned the school a strong academic reputation both nationally and internationally.

Offering comprehensive undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, the school covers the full breadth of Chinese history, with particular strength in the history of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), alongside robust research in Qin–Han, Tang–Song, and Republican (1912–1949) history. Its disciplines include specialized history, historiography, historical geography, theory of history and the history of historical studies. The school's world history program excels in Western medieval and modern history, while its research in environmental history is also expanding, and the archaeology program focuses on northern China's ethnological archaeology and is developing rapidly.
