Time: 10:00 am, October 17

Location: Room 607, Lide Building, Zhongguancun Campus

Speaker: Fabrizio Andreatta, professor at the University of Milan

In this talk, Professor Fabrizio Andreatta will present through examples the rich interplay between the theory of modular forms (complex analytic, algebraic, p-adic) and special values of L-functions (analytic, p-adic) starting from results of Siegel and Serre on Bernoulli numbers using Eisenstein series.

Introduction to the speaker: Fabrizio Andreatta has been a professor at the University of Milan since 2006. His mathematical interests are in arithmetic geometry and the study of models of Shimura varieties, p-adic automorphic forms and p-adic Hodge theory and, especially, the interplay among these three areas of research.

In 2018, together with Adrian Iovita and Vincent Pilloni, he was an invited speaker at the ICM for their work on p-adic families of automorphic forms. In the same year, he was awarded the Medal for Mathematics from the Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze, Italy's national academy of science. His paper, "Faltings heights of abelian varieties with complex multiplication", coauthored with Eyal Goren, Benjamin Howard and Keerthi Madapusi Pera and published in Annals of Mathematics, has been selected by the International Congress of Basic Science, as a recipient of the 2024 Frontiers of Science Award in Mathematics.
