Exploring the UN Charter's Spirit and Promoting Human Rights on its Eightieth Anniversary: Symposium on Human Rights Theories and Practice was held in Beijing on Oct 11.
Jiang Jianguo, executive vice president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, noted that the signing of the UN Charter and the establishment of the United Nations were historic achievements made by the peoples of the world in their pursuit of peace and justice following the victory of the global anti-fascist war.
He emphasized that the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative have pointed out a clear direction for addressing current global human rights challenges: safeguarding human rights through security, promoting human rights through development, advancing human rights through cooperation, and protecting human rights through governance.
Lin Shangli, president of RUC, stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of both the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. As a fundamental document jointly observed by the international community, the UN Charter has laid a solid foundation for advancing human civilization, promoting the development of human rights, and improving the global governance system. RUC stands ready to work with all sectors to advance human rights practice and contribute to international cooperation in the field of human rights.
Participants agreed that China's human rights practices fully embody the purposes of the UN Charter and the shared values of humanity, providing Chinese wisdom and solutions for improving the global human rights governance system. They called for taking the spirit of the Charter as guidance to build consensus on human rights, deepen international cooperation in this field, and promote the construction of a more just, equitable, and inclusive global human rights governance system.
