Speaker: Mikkel Thorup

Professor Mikkel, a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Technology, earned his PhD from the University of Oxford in 1993. He began his academic career at the University of Copenhagen from 1993 to 1998, followed by a tenure at AT&T Research in the United States from 1998 to 2013. Since 2013, he has been a professor at the University of Copenhagen while serving as the director of the Basic Algorithms Research Center (BARC). Recognized as an ACM Fellow and AT&T Fellow, he holds the prestigious position of Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Technology member. His distinguished honors include the MAA Robbins Award in Mathematics (2011), the Villum Kann Rasmussen Award (Denmark's highest individual research honor) (2015), and the AMS-MOS Fulkerson Prize along with the STOC 20-Year Test of Time Award (2021). Specializing in algorithm and data structure research, Professor Mikkel focuses on improving upper and lower bounds in computational complexity.
