Established in 1952, the University of Zimbabwe is the country's first and largest university, and the most prestigious comprehensive institution. The Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe, founded in 2006 on the Harare campus, is the only Confucius Institute in the country. As the first in Southern Africa to integrate Chinese language education into a university system, it actively collaborates with other institutions to establish Chinese language programs and promotes the development of local Chinese language education.
