Founded in 1409, the University of Leipzig is one of the oldest universities in Germany. 

The Confucius Institute at the University of Leipzig, established in 2007, was the first of its kind in eastern Germany. 

Based in Leipzig, the institute also serves the surrounding regions, including Saxony and Thuringia.
