Li Zi’ang, an undergraduate student at the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China (RUC), received a down jacket and scarf personally presented by Zhang Donggang, secretary of the CPC Committee, RUC, on Feb 4.
Three days earlier, Li donated hematopoietic stem cells, becoming the 14th hematopoietic stem cell donor among current students at RUC, the 803rd donor in Beijing, and the 22,165th donor nationwide.
Zhang commended him for his great compassion and sense of responsibility. "Kindness is the most precious quality of youth. Your courageous act exemplifies the spirit of young people and profound love for humanity, setting an example for all students at RUC," Zhang noted.

Zhang kindly urged Li to rest well and continue to spread genuine kindness, beauty, and positive energy to other people.
"I never expected Secretary Zhang to visit me personally and even bring me the trending down jacket," Li said excitedly.
The act of donation can be traced back to 2023 when Li learned that the university's Youth Volunteer Association was organizing a blood donation drive and signed up without hesitation.

On November 25, 2025, with just 25 days left before the 2026 National Postgraduate Entrance Examination, Li, who was in the midst of intense preparation, received a notification from the Beijing Red Cross Society that he had initially matched with a patient suffering from a blood-related disease. Faced with this urgent request for donation, he did not hesitate and expressed his willingness to donate.
After confirming the donation, a series of complex preparations followed. He completed the pre-donation physical examination and was admitted to the hospital in January for completion of the donation.

Although this period was critical for his postgraduate exam preparation, he demonstrated unwavering determination. "Both preparing for the exam and donating are important. I can wait for another opportunity, but the patient cannot."
"Being a student at RUC and having the opportunity to practice great compassion is my greatest honor," Li said, adding that he will continue to give back to the university and serve society.
