The School of Marxism Studies was established in 1996 by the merger of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism History (founded in 1964), the Theoretical Education Institute of Marxism (founded in 1986) and the Department of Chinese Communist Party History (enrollment began in 1956, formally founded in 1958). It is one of the earliest Marxism schools in China, and is known as a highland for teaching and researching Marxist theory, as well as a “workbench” for cultivating high-level Marxist professionals. The School has established the most complete Marxist discipline system in China. Its Marxist Theory discipline, which includes seven second-level disciplines, is the only national key first-level discipline in the Marxist theory field in Chinese universities. Besides, the School also has Marxist philosophy, political economy, scientific socialism and international communist movement, the history of the Communist Party of China and other Marxist disciplines.

The School of CPC History & Party-building at Renmin University of China is the first substantive and established academic institution in China under the name of Party History and Party Building to promote the integration of disciplinary teaching, scientific research, talent cultivation, academic exchanges, and think tank construction. Its predecessor is the Department of Chinese Communist Party History, which was established in 1958. As the earliest founder and pathfinder of this academic field since 1949 as well as the promoter and trendsetter since 2012, the School has accumulated a time-honored education tradition, a systematic and complete disciplinary system, a cohort of well-established faculty members, an abundance of scientific research achievements, and an outstanding social reputation, all of which have in turn provide a solid foundation for building a strong and excellent discipline.

The Academy of Discipline Inspection and Supervision of Renmin University of China was established in November 2022. It is mainly responsible for the training of undergraduate and master’s degree talent, discipline planning and construction, faculty building, scientific research, social service, international exchange and cooperation, and other tasks. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Academy thoroughly implements Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and Xi Jinping’s remarks on maintaining and improving CPC and state oversight systems. The Academy is based on the Chineseized and modernized Marxism, and guided by the theory of discipline inspection and supervision. It actively promotes the construction of an independent knowledge system for discipline inspection and supervision, and strives to become a first-class academy in talent training, scientific research and political service.

The Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was founded in January 2018, and is one of the first ten research institutes of its kind. It is under the direct leadership of the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Education. The Academy focuses on the following work: to study, publicize, research and explain Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; to conduct in-depth research on the major theoretical and practical issues of socialism with Chinese characteristics; to solidly promote Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into teaching materials, classrooms and minds; to continuously carry out the disciplinary construction talent cultivation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; to actively promote Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to the outside world.
