2018.05.07

On April 24th, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Silk Road Planning Research Center LI Xiaolin and his delegates visited to open discussions. RUC Principal LIU Wei, RUC Vice President WU Xiaoqiu and LIU Yuanchun attended the forum. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on topics regarding future cooperation and development of the Silk Road Institute and the construction of think tanks. The Vice Chairman of the Silk Road Planning Research Center JIANG Zhigang also attended the meeting.

LI Xiaolin began by introducing the situation of the Silk Road Planning Research Center. She stated that the Silk Road Planning Research Center was established in 2016 and is a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics established to serve the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. They aim to exert strategic research and policy suggestions, cultivate talent, guide public opinion, public diplomacy, and other functions to further promote the "One Belt, One Road" development. Renmin University is one of the first formal universities and is particularly strong in the field of humanities and social sciences. In recent years, RUC’s think tank construction has achieved outstanding results. Related research on the “One Belt, One Road” initiative also seems to have a wide range of influence on society. The “One Belt, One Road” blueprint is currently being created and is about to become a reality. In it, the idea that "people's hearts and minds" is of great significance, providing the bridges and links for China's cross-cultural exchanges with countries along the Silk Road. She hopes to explore future possible cooperation with RUC towards constructing and further developing the Silk Road Institute, especially to help gather professional talents, serve strategic needs, and cooperate to provide intellectual support for the implementation of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

LIU Wei began by giving a brief introduction to Renmin University’s preparation for the Silk Road Institute. He stated that in the 80 years since its establishment, the university has always shared the same fate with the party and the country. The establishment of the Silk Road Institute aims to cultivate international standards for countries and regions along the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, relying on the school’s academic strengths in the humanities and social sciences and its international experience in running schools, strengthened by their first-class teachers, comprehensive training program, and modern education methods. It is a key measure for the Ministry of Education to actively cooperate and promote the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, and according to LIU, the preparation of the Silk Road Institute is proceeding as planned. In regards of providing their education to the outside world, the planning and construction of the Silk Road Institute urgently needs work. RUC hopes to further cooperative efforts with the Silk Road Planning Research Center in creating curriculums, providing training, and introducing new talents. He hope that together, they will be able to make the Silk Road Institute a brand-new demonstration-oriented project that follows the "One Belt, One Road" initiative that will significantly impact the world.

At the symposium, both sides discussed in-depth on specific issues concerning future cooperation and construction of the Silk Road Institute.

The Director of the Office of the Silk Road Planning Research Center MU Jinghuai and Director WANG Jinghong, RUC Director of the Development Planning Office ZHU Xinkai, Deputy Director of the School Office QIAO Peng, and relevant people in charge of the Chongyang Financial Research Institute attended the symposium.
