The latest research of Prof. CHENG Xusen from the Department of Economic Information Management, RUC School of Information, “Surge Pricing and Short-term Wage Elasticity of Labor Supply in Real-Time Ridesharing Markets” has recently been accepted by MIS Quarterly. The paper was jointly written by Prof. CHENG, Dr. Shu He from the University of Connecticut and Associate Professor Liangfei Qiu from the University of Florida.

It is the first paper from RUC School of Information accepted by MIS Quarterly, and another paper by Prof. CHENG’s team accepted by top international journal, only one year after their article published on the top FT50 journal JMIS (Journal of Management Information Systems) in 2020. It fully demonstrates RUC faculty’s ability to engage in high-level original research in the field of information management.

Overview: In recent years, online ride-hailing services represented by Uber and Lyft have witnessed unprecedented growth and are reshaping the pattern of traditional travel industry. Using the data of a large online ride-hailing service platform, this study comprehensively analyzes the short-term wage elasticity of labor supply in the market.
