On September 19th-20th, the 6th Model Climate Change Conference of the Parties (MCCCOP 6), co-hosted by Renmin University of China (RUC) and Tsinghua Univeristy, was held in Tsinghua School of Environment. One hundred fifty-three delegates from forty-seven universities attended the two-day conference.

MCCCOP 6 followed the negotiation process of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Participants represented different countries to negotiate on specific issues and sought solutions agreed by all parties while safeguarding their interests.

The conference began negotiations on article VI of the Paris Agreement and detailed rules for its implementation. After five meetings and two free consultations, the participants reached a consensus on some issues and temporarily shelved other controversial matters.

After negotiations, the delegates submitted the draft guiding opinions on cooperation methods to MCCCOP 6 for deliberation and formed a resolution. After selection, 26 students received awards.

Dr. GAO Xiang, Director of the International Policy Research Department of the National Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, gave a speech at the closing ceremony. He believed that the professional knowledge, negotiation skills, and language level of the current MCCCOP delegates had made significant progress compared with his generation. He hoped that the students would work hard for the environment and fight for the country's interests in COP in the future.
