On May 7th, the online international conference “Language and Society (2021)” was held by Renmin University of China School of Foreign Languages. More than 290 scholars and graduate students attended the conference. The participants had in-depth discussions on topics in the fields of pragmatics, semantics, discourse studies, multilingual studies, historical linguistics and language testing.

RUC Vice President Prof. DU Peng delivered an English opening speech to welcome the keynote speakers and all the participants. Prof. DU pointed out that interdisciplinary research on linguistics is significant for our society, and that this conference would enhance the communication among scholars from different countries, and promote an organic integration of linguistics research with other disciplines.

Scholars from 6 different countries and regions were invited to the conference. Participants had in-depth exchanges and interactions with each other on their research topics, and provided opportunities for the participants to broaden their research ideas.
