On September 15-16, 2023,
"Interdisciplinary Research: The Second Symposium on Overseas Chinese
literature & the Book Launch of Selected Chinese Literature of Southeast
Asia in the New Century" were successfully held. The event was jointly
organized by the team responsible of “Research on Asian American Literature’’,
a major academic project funded by Renmin University of China and led by Prof.
Guo Yingjian of the School of Foreign Languages of RUC; the Modern Literature
Research Office of the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social
Sciences; the Chinese Society for Comparison of Chinese and Foreign Languages
and Cultures, and the School of Liberal Arts of the Communication University of
Zhejiang.
On behalf of the organizers, Prof. Guo
Yingjian delivered an opening speech in which he pointed out that the
establishment of a cooperation platform in the context of cross-disciplinary
integration will lead to a broader research vision and accelerate the
innovation and development of overseas Chinese literature and domestic Chinese
literature. He emphasized the importance of carrying international research on overseas
Chinese literature and domestic Chinese literature, which, according to Prof.
Guo, is an important step for related research in China to go out and make
Chinese voices heard in the global arena.
During the conference, Prof. Guo Yingjian
also delivered a keynote speech titled "The Realistic Demand for the
Integration of overseas Chinese literature and domestic Chinese literature” to
emphasis the importance of the mutual influence of different literary fields, calling
on scholars to carry out more frequent researches in this area.

In addition, other members of Prof. Guo
Yingjian's team also participated in heated discussions during the conference.
The communication proved to be productive as many participants mentioned that
they were inspired greatly. In his keynote speech, Prof. Liu Xianghui, a PhD
student of the Class of 2022 under Prof. Guo Yingjian's supervision, also Vice
Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Xuchang College, demonstrated the
collision and development of the radicals and moderates in overseas Chinese
literature and domestic Chinese literature under the title of the Ideological Origins
of the Zhao-Tang Controversy. Lv Wei, a post-doctoral fellow at School of
Foreign Languages, RUC and four Phd candidates in RUC, Zhang Chengwen, He
Naiting, Song Xiaohan, Liu Lifang, and Han Bing, presented their papers. their
papers were awarded the "First Prize of Outstanding Papers" in the
symposium.
The event attracted extensive participation
from experts and scholars from many prestigious universities at home and
abroad, among them are Renmin University of China, University of Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University,
Shandong University, to name but a few. The symposium is expected to help
scholars in the field to continually generate new ideas on overseas Chinese
literature and domestic Chinese literature. The intersection between overseas
Chinese literature and domestic Chinese literature will inject new vitality
into the inheritance and development of Chinese culture.
