The Eighth South Asia Sindh Forum of Renmin University of China (RUC) was held at November 3. Li Li, Vice Dean of Institute of International Relations of Tsinghua University was invited to deliver a keynote speech .

The forum was hosted by Associate Professor Cao Dejun of the School of International Studies of RUC. More than 180 teachers and students participated in the forum through a combination of online and offline.

Li Li has long been engaged in the research of South Asia. She got the PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University in India and published many important academic papers in both domestic and international professional journals.

Li Li pointed out that with India’s international status improving, South Asian issues have increasingly become one of the key directions of country studies. She encouraged the students to deepen their understanding of South Asian affairs by combining history and reality,  theory and policy.

In her speech, Li first reviewed the history and evolution of India’s nonalignment policy. Then, she used the theory of hedging to analyze the deep driving force of India’s foreign strategy transformation from nonalignment to multi-alignment.

She also gave detailed suggestions on the academic publication of country studies. She said that researchers should pay attention to the application of theories based on abundant materials and use scientific methods to design the research. It is also important to abide by the rules and characteristics of journals and disciplines in the process of publication.

Then, Associate Professor Cao Dejun made a summary comment on Li’s speech. He said that the speech provided us with profound knowledge to understand India’s external strategic transformation. Especially the use of the hedging theory, which helps to enrich the academic pedigree of international studies. Finally, they had a discussion on how to understand the influence of Indian strategic culture on the policies of different India Parties.

In the end, overseas students from India, teachers and students from universities in Beijing raised their questions. Professor Li responded them with thoughtful and clear answers.
