The 2024 International Communication Collaboration Mechanism Seminar was held at Renmin University of China (RUC) on Dec. 9. The event was hosted by China Global Television Network and undertaken by the New Era International Communication Research Institute, RUC. The event bears witness to the ambition of RUC to further empower the School of Journalism and Communication, RUC and better present China’s stories to global audiences.

Fan Yun, editor-in-chief of CGTN, presided over the seminar. Lin Shangli, President of RUC, delivered a keynote speech, and Zheng Shuiquan, Vice Chair of the University Council, delivered a welcome speech. Xi Yanchun, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and other news workers from 29 provinces attended the seminar.

The New Era International Communication Research Institute, RUC, jointly established by Renmin University of China and China Media Group was officially established in May this year. The Institute is committed to strengthening the collaboration between multiple international communication agents, promoting the close integration of practical practice, theoretical research and technology research and development, striving to accelerate the construction of Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative system, and exploring new paths for comprehensively improving the effectiveness of China's international communication.

Fan Yun first elaborated on the background and significance of the seminar. The core of the "Lovely China": international communication cooperation mechanism is to expand the dissemination power and influence of locally produced international communication programs through the empowerment of China Media Group.

Lin Shangli, President of RUC, put forward three expectations: first, to build China's independent international communication system based on research and interpretation; the second is to take advantage of multiple cooperation to gather the joint force of international communication; The third is to deepen the capacity of international communication with technological innovation.

Zheng Shuiquan, Vice Chair of the University Council, RUC, said that RUC will remain committed to strengthening international communication capacity, better presenting Chinese stories to global audiences, disseminating Chinese voices, and showing the credible, lovely and respectable image of China to the rest of the world.

Wang Yuehua, deputy editor-in-chief of CGTN and deputy director of the English Global Program Center, introduced the operation of the 2023 International Communication Cooperation Mechanism before summarizing the achievements and experiences of the past year. Wang said that the cooperation mechanism will continue to open up new paths for international communication and strive to achieve more achievements in the days to come.

Wang Jian, Director of the Foreign Cooperation Department of the English Global Program Center of CGTN, introduced the operation plan of the international communication cooperation mechanism in 2024, and put forward suggestions for the collection of works and deepening cooperation at all levels across the country.

Zhou Yong, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, Renmin University of China, said that there is a long way to go to strengthen the capacity of international communication, and the institute will give full play to its advantages and strengthen cooperation with publicity departments at all levels across the country.

At the seminar, 30 representatives of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee and relevant media from Shandong, Chongqing, Neimenggu and other provinces successively delivered speeches.

In his concluding remarks, Fan said that CGTN will work with all parties to turn the blueprint into action, deepen the international communication cooperation mechanism, empower each other, achieve effective connection and cooperation, tell China's story with heart, strength and affection, and strive to promote China's national image in the new era.
