Forum of “The Three-Body Problem and RUC” Held in RUC 

     The forum “The Three-Body Problem and RUC” was held in the YIFU Conference Centre at Renmin University of China (RUC) on Dec.6th. More than 400 RUC students and faculty, who share a common passion for The Three-Body Problem series, attended the forum and delved into the fascinating world of science fiction, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Theming “Exploring the Humanity and Philosophy in Chinese Science Fiction”, the forum invited esteemed guests such as Yang Lei, the chief director of the Three-Body TV series, Lu Beike, the visual director of the TV series, Ou Shujun, a professor from the School of International Relations of RUC, Ma Zhengyang, the voice actor for the protagonist in "My Three-Body", and Wei Benqun, a lecturer at the School of Philosophy of RUC.

The event commenced with the performance of Ma Zhengyang, the voice actor, reenacting famous scenes from "My Three-Body" Animation. The shows of Ma successfully immersed the audience in the world described in The Three-Body Problem.

Following that, students from the Central Academy of Fine Arts performed the theme music from "The Three-Body" TV series. The melodies led the audience on a journey through the stories in The Three-Body Problem, eliciting high spirits on the spot.

        The main segment of the forum featured a roundtable discussion, where the guests engaged in dialogues facilitated by Professor Wei Benqun. The topics of discussion included "Contact with Extraterrestrial Civilization", "Reflections on Technological Development" and "The Future Development of Chinese Science Fiction and the Technological Responsibility of Youth."  Participants shared their impressive plots and favorite lines from The Three-Body Problem.

The creative team behind The Three-Body Problem TV series shared the experiences and stories behind the scenes of its production. Director Yang Lei discussed the preparations needed to adapt the novel into a visual medium. Ya emphasized the importance of extensive discussions and learning from scientists, which he believed is the responsibility of his role as a director.

Professor Ou Shujun also shared his most impressive inspiration from The Three-Body Problem. Ou argued that The Three-Body Problem provided him with a transcendent imagination amidst the mundane life. It also brought about a firm belief in the power of the present in the face of tragedy in life. Ou said that The Three-Body Problem had gone beyond its genre as science fiction, and prompted deeper thinking on the human community of a shared future, as the lines in it read: "The universe is vast, while life is even vaster.”

As the roundtable forum approached its conclusion, Wei Benqun, the host, invited the guests to share their insights. The guests encouraged the students to venture into a broader world and at the same time to maintain a passionate pursuit of their ideals.

The forum ended with joy and applause after a lively Q&A session, where students actively participated and expressed their thoughts and understanding.
