2024.05.28

Lin Shangli, President of Renmin University of China (RUC), met with Nurul Izzah Binti Anwar, Vice President of Malaysia’s People’s Justice Party, on May 15, discussing the possibility of exchange and cooperation between China and Malaysia.

Upon welcoming Nurul Izzah and her delegation, Lin Shangli provided a detailed overview of RUC’s history, strengths, and achievements. He highlighted that RUC is the first modern university founded by the People’s Republic of China, and has since then made significant contributions to the development and prosperity of China’s philosophy and social sciences. The university has always aligned its growth with the nation’s development, leveraging its integrated multi-campus system with research centers in the three major economic hubs of China: the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In terms of international cooperation and cross-cultural exchanges, RUC has been organizing the establishment of overseas centers, which will cover Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

Lin Shangli told Nurul Izzah that RUC is planning a global youth leadership training program, and looks forward to maintaining friendly ties with the People’s Justice Party and jointly cultivating young talents. He also welcomed young party members and Malaysian students to study at RUC.

Nurul Izzah provided an introduction to her party, including its founding history, visions, and goals. Founded in the late 1990s, the People’s Justice Party is relatively young. Nurul Izzah pointed out that the People’s Justice Party can learn a lot from the Communist Party of China, especially its valuable experiences in establishing RUC. She expressed hopes for deeper cooperation with RUC in the future, aiming to promote exchanges between young students and jointly cultivate outstanding talents, thereby contributing to the development of China and Malaysia and enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.

After the meeting, Nurul Izzah and her delegation visited the university museum to view the exhibition “History of Renmin University of China – A Model of Modern Universities Founded by People’s Republic of China”.

Prominent members from the People’s Justice Party and Malaysian officials also attended the meeting, accompanied by RUC faculty members.
