Two More Institutes Established to Empower RUC’s Development

Recently, RUC unveiled two new research institutes: the Institute for Foreign-Related Rule of Law and the Center for Translation and Study of World Literature, respectively affiliated to the RUC Law School and the School of Foreign Languages. While the former was established to better tackle the major issues concerning foreign-related rule of law in the key areas of national diplomacy, international relations and global governance, the latter was designed to study the cutting-edge issues of world literature amidst great changes unseen in a century, carry forward the shared values of all humankind, and to deepen the exchanges and mutual enrichment of civilizations. By presenting the voice, theory, and thoughts of China to global audience, RUC’s latest move bears witness to the university’s ambition in promoting world peace and development and driving the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The Institute for Foreign-Related Rule of Law


RUC has always been a front runner in the field of Law. To further accelerate China’s rejuvenation drive, the Institute for Foreign-Related Rule of Law was established on May 30.

 The newly-established Institute will mainly focus on the following aspects:

1.         Innovating talent training model in foreign-related rule of law

2.         Continuously deepening research on foreign-related rule of law

3.         Establishing RUC’s foreign-related legal consultation and service center

4.         Enhancing the ability of foreign-related rule of law think tanks in providing political advice and services.

5.         Strengthening the dissemination of research results concerning foreign-related rule of law and international exchange.

As a milestone in China’s legal education, the newly established institutite is basking in the attention as its inauguration ceremony brought together many important political figures. Among them were officials from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. Many distinguished scholars and experts were also present, including the ones from China Law Society and many prestigious Chinese universities.

At the inauguration ceremony, the attendees heaped praise on RUC’s decision to establish the Institute, believing it will not only empower the university’s development but also contribute to China’s rejuvenation drive. In addition to congratulations, they also expressed their high expectations on the institute to make differences in China’s legal education.

Lin Shangli, President of RUC, addressed the ceremony in which he reviewed the close ties between RUC Law School and the country’s rule of law development. He also confirmed the university’s determination to further shoulder the responsibility of training top-notch talents in foreign-related rule of law. With its focus on global governance, the institute will endeavor to improve the service of foreign-related rule of law think tanks, open up new avenues of research, accelerate the construction of China’s independent knowledge system of foreign-related rule of law, so as to ensure a greater voice in related field.

 

The Center for Translation and Study of World Literature


On May 31, the Symposium on World Literature and China & Opening Ceremony of the Center for Translation and Study of World Literature was held. The event brought together many distinguished experts in liberal arts, among whom were theorists, popular authors, translators and critics. Lin Shangli iterated the significance of carrying forward the common values of all mankind and deepening people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding. Ultimately, he affirmed that the institute will add to RUC’S contribution to the construction of a community of shared future for mankind.

As the first Chinese academic research center focusing on the concept of common values of all mankind from the perspective of world literature, the Center for Translation and Study of World Literature is built on the translation of thematic literary works. It deals with the common values of all mankind, the diversity of human destinies, and the richness of human civilization presented in world literature. Also, the center encourages us to actively participate in the exchange of civilizations between China and other countries, and promote the exchange of literature and culture between China and other countries.

The newly-established Institute will mainly focus on the following aspects:

1.      Building a platform for foreign literature translation

2.      Creating a sustainable publication mechanism of world literature translation

3.      Establishing a research platform for foreign literature

4.      Ensuring a constant output of academic results

5.      Building a platform for communication between Chinese and foreign literature

6.      Forming a sustainable mechanism for academic development

At the end of the symposium, Chen Fang, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of RUC, and Wen Zeyuan, President of Shanghai People’s Art Publishing House, signed the Letter of Intent of Cooperation on behalf of the School of Foreign Languages of RUC and Shanghai People’s Publishing House respectively. The signing ceremony was followed by the appointment ceremony of guest researchers and fellows of the research center. With concerted efforts from all parties, the research center and RUC is bound to usher in great breakthroughs in academic development.
