The delegation of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), led by Vice Rectors Francisco Jose Saez Martinez and Angela Gonzalez Moreno visited Renmin University of China (RUC) on June 18th. The meeting was hosted by Zheng Xinye, Vice President of RUC.
Zheng Xinye expressed a warm welcome to the UCLM delegation and introduced the history of RUC. He highlighted that RUC, founded in 1937 as Shanbei Public School, is renowned as a leading institution in the humanities and social sciences in China. He noted that in recent years, the university has also been rapidly developing in STEM fields, particularly artificial intelligence.
Zheng Xinye emphasized RUC's commitment to high-level talent cultivation through innovative programs, mentioning the university’s 13 English-taught programs and international summer school. He expressed a keen interest in exploring further collaborations with UCLM in areas such as short-term exchanges, summer schools, and joint programs. He also proposed collaborative research on global issues like climate change, food security, poverty alleviation, human rights, security, and global health governance, aiming to address global challenges and promote common development.
Francisco Jose Saez Martinez provided an overview of UCLM’s history, scale, and academic strengths, along with its international cooperation efforts. He emphasized UCLM’s robust research capabilities and the availability of English-taught courses. Saez Martinez noted UCLM’s long-standing commitment to partnerships with Chinese universities, currently engaging with 19 institutions across 12 provinces, and hosting over 700 Chinese students. He expressed a desire to build on this strong foundation, aiming to expand and deepen faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and various collaborative initiatives with RUC.
The UCLM delegation included notable members such as Manuel Esteban Lucas Borja, Ramon Hervas Lucas, Virginia Rodriguez Robledo, Sergio Horta Munoz, Llanos Lopez Munoz, and Julia Corredor Canadas. The meeting was also attended by key RUC representatives including Zheng Shi, Vice Dean of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development; Hu Lifang, Vice Dean of the School of Education; Gong Yazhen, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering; and Lin Yuan, Deputy Director of the International Office.
