On July 30th, Zheng Xinye, Vice President of Renmin University of China(RUC), met with Bernd Huber, President of the University of Munich, along with Vice President Hans van Ess and Vice President Sigmund Stintzing.
Zheng welcomed Huber's visit. He pointed out that Germany's thoughts, history, art and education have attracted worldwide attention. The University of Munich is one of the most prestigious comprehensive universities in Europe and even the world, and is an important partner of RUC in Germany.
RUC cherishes the cooperation with the University of Munich. Deepening the student training and joint research between the two universities is a priority for the construction of RUC’s international partner network. We look forward to the two universities working together to carry out joint research on issues that are crucial to third world countries, such as food security, energy security, women's rights, and population aging, and contribute solutions to world development.
Huber reviewed the cooperation process between the two universities. He pointed out that the University of Munich and RUC have maintained a friendly cooperative partnership for a long time. In 2015, the University of Munich launched the “Munich University-China Academic Network (LMU-ChAN)” project, and RUC was a founding member. It is hoped that the two universities will expand cooperation to more disciplines such as artificial intelligence and finance on the basis of the original cooperation in law and philosophy.
He said that the world today faces many uncertain factors, and universities have the important responsibility of building communication channels and enhancing understanding among all sectors. The University of Munich is willing to deepen cooperation with RUC to jointly enhance mutual understanding between China and Germany.
Faculty staff from Research Office, International Office, School of Philosophy, School of Finance, and School of International Studies also attended the meeting.
