The "Chinese Modernization and the Future of the World" Mingde Strategic Dialogue 2024 was held at Renmin University of China (RUC) on September 3.
Senior officials, including Wang Gang, Deputy Minister of the Central Publicity Department, and Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council, attended the event and delivered speeches. The President of the European Institute for Asian Studies, Axel Goethals, spoke on behalf of international participants. The opening session was moderated by Zheng Xinye, Vice President of RUC.
The dialogue gathered strategic scholars from China, Turkey, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, and the United States to discuss China's achievements and experiences in advancing Chinese-style modernization and its significance to the world.
Wang Gang emphasized that the recent Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee made strategic decisions on deepening reforms and advancing Chinese-style modernization. He highlighted China’s commitment to peaceful development and further opening up, providing new opportunities for global collaboration. Wang expressed China’s willingness to create more platforms for scholars worldwide to engage with China’s development.
Zhang Donggang underscored that the dialogue aimed to showcase the true and comprehensive development of China to the international academic community. He encouraged participants to use the platform to foster global development and build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Axel Goethals spoke about the importance of viewing Sino-European relations from a strategic perspective amidst a complex international landscape, calling for increased academic cooperation in education, culture, and technology.
During the event, two bilingual reports were released: The Compound Interest of Great Powers: China's High-Quality Development and Prospects for 2035 and Tackling Challenges: China’s Comprehensive Deepening of Reforms and Opening-up to 2029 and 2035. These reports analyzed China’s development trajectory and provided insights into the country’s role in building an open global economy.
The day featured two strategic dialogues on "Chinese Modernization and the World: New Opportunities and Challenges" and "Deepening Reform and Opening-up: New Tasks in a New Era." Scholars from various countries exchanged views on China’s modernization and its global significance, offering recommendations for addressing challenges in the global modernization process.
The Mingde Strategic Dialogue was hosted by RUC and organized by the university's Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies. Experts explored the practical achievements of China’s modernization across several cities, providing valuable insights into China’s role in shaping the future of global development.
