On September 28th, the inauguration ceremony of the Tongzhou Campus of Renmin University of China was held, marking a new chapter in the development and construction of Renmin University of China!

The Tongzhou Campus of Renmin University of China covers a total area of 1,652 mu，or 1.05 million square meters. Over the past five years, with the strong support from all walks of life and the meticulous planning of the university council, the construction of the campus has basically come to a successful end. Currently, the first eight construction zones of the campus, approximately 500,000 square meters, has been fully completed, meeting the conditions for independent operation. The 166,000-square-meter construction task of the building complex of Administrative Service Center and other areas are also underway as planned.

The construction of the RUC Tongzhou Campus has always adhered to the principles of "global vision, international standards, Chinese characteristics, and high positioning," striving to create a model campus for the new era. During the early stage of operation, the university will fully leverage the resources of the new location, together with RUC’s advantages in humanities and social sciences disciplines, to boost teaching, research, think tanks, and cultural and sports activities for each faculty and department, making the Tongzhou Campus full of vitality and energy, becoming a new hall for academic research. In response to the needs of national strategy, research institutions, academic forums, and academic resources will be directed to the Tongzhou Campus, promoting comprehensive service of various research institutions to Beijing, its sub-center, and Tongzhou District.

Yu Yingjie, the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee; Zhang Donggang, Chair of the RUC University Council; Wang Junwei, Director of the Academic and Editorial Committee of the Central Party History and Literature Research Institute; Zheng Xuexuan, Party Secretary and Chairman of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited; Chen Yun, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Railway Group Limited; Professor Huang Jiashu, National First-Class professor of Renmin University of China; Cui Kai, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chief Architect of China Architecture Design & Research Institute; Song Lingyun, Deputy Director of the Social Science Department of the Ministry of Education, among other representatives from different sectors of the society, jointly witnessed the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Lin Shangli, President of Renmin University of China.

Zhang Donggang, on behalf of Renmin University of China, expressed his gratitude to the higher authorities and relevant departments who care about and support the construction of the Tongzhou Campus and the development of the university. He also paid tribute to the hard work of all parties involved in the construction. He pointed out that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the official opening of the Tongzhou Campus of Renmin University of China has milestone significance in the development history of the university. The official opening of the Tongzhou Campus means that the only national key university in the Tongzhou area has gone into service, marking the fundamental improvement of the university's educational conditions.

Following his speech, Yu Yingjie, Lin Shangli, Chen Yun also made important remarks in the ceremony and expressed their expectations on the new campus.

Representatives of the donors, Ye Chenghai, an alumnus from the class of 1963 and founder of Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., and Zhang Lei, an alumnus from the class of 1990 and founder of Hillhouse Capital Management, delivered video speeches.

Ye Chenghai stated that the glorious traditions of Renmin University of China have provided rich spiritual nourishment for generations of RUC students. The opening of the Tongzhou Campus marks another new step for the university in cultivating new talents of the era, serving national strategies, and promoting the construction of a strong educational country.

Zhang Lei stated that the official opening of the Tongzhou Campus is not only a new progress in campus construction but also a new chapter in the educational cause of the university. The opening of the new campus will result in more and better educational resources and life experiences to teachers and students, creating more beautiful memories.
