To honor revolutionary and literary figure Cheng Fangwu, the first "Cheng Fangwu Literary Criticism Forum” is to be held from November 15 to 17, aiming to advance the study of modern Chinese literature and deepen critical approaches in the field.
Cheng Fangwu played an influential role as a revolutionary, writer, translator, and educator, as well as a former president of Renmin University of China. His legacy has received renewed attention in recent years, inspiring numerous studies and establishing him as a central figure in Chinese literary and cultural history.
Themed "Local Writing and Historical Reinterpretation," the first forum will explore new developments in local writing within contemporary literature and examine the role of historical documentation in shaping literary history. The event seeks to foster innovative research on the regional and cultural dimensions of Chinese literature and provide theoretical foundations for future study.
This forum will include discussions on how literature reflects local identities and the importance of building an independent knowledge system for Chinese language and literature. With Cheng Fangwu’s contributions as an enduring inspiration, the event aims to open new directions in Chinese literary criticism and scholarship.
Three sub-forums will be held on November 16, including “New Developments in Local Writing in Contemporary Literature,” “Historical Documentation and the Interpretation of Contemporary Literary History,” and “Roundtable on the Construction of an Autonomous Knowledge System in Chinese Language and Literature.”
