Renmin University of China (RUC) inaugurated the nation’s first School of Global Leadership, an initiative aimed at fostering future global leaders and youth ambassadors, on Nov.4th.
Guided by the mission of promoting world peace and development, the school seeks to advance China's strategy for contributing to the global community and building shared human values.
Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council of RUC, highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue and supporting a shared future for humanity. Zhang emphasized the school’s role in developing strategic, globally minded individuals capable of addressing the evolving challenges of the modern era.
Danilo Türk, Former Slovenian President and World Leadership Alliance President, applauded the timing of the school’s opening, noting China’s growing influence on the global stage. He underscored the school's potential to strengthen RUC’s academic quality and international reach, calling it an opportunity to bridge China’s insights with global perspectives.
Marcellina Chijoriga, Director of the Nyerere Leadership School, expressed alignment with the school’s vision and looked forward to deepening collaborations to broaden leadership training.
Wu Sike, former Chinese envoy to the Middle East, welcomed the school’s founding as a strategic move to enhance Chinese cultural understanding and storytelling, advancing RUC’s role in international education.
Representatives from Chinese government agencies and public organizations echoed their support.
Guo Rui, Deputy Director of International Cooperation at the National Development and Reform Commission, said the school signifies RUC’s proactive role in promoting a shared human destiny.
Tong Xiaoling, Vice President of the Chinese Association for Public Diplomacy, emphasized the institution’s potential to develop China’s next generation of international leaders and foster high-level cooperation.
Zhang Ning, Chair of the International Competency Training Committee of the Chinese Society for Education Development Strategy, strongly supported the School of Global Leadership. Zhang emphasized that the committee would offer substantial resources, including senior expert-led curricula and internship programs, to bolster RUC’s mission of cultivating globally competent leaders.
Shan Yun, Deputy General Manager of China Railway Construction Engineering Group, commended establishing the School of Global Leadership as a strategic move to nurture internationally oriented talent. He noted that the school would support China’s “Belt and Road” initiative and help improve the mechanisms for high-level international engagement.
The school will adopt a "global, first-class, and forward-looking" approach. Its goals include developing students' international competencies, strengthening ties with RUC’s international research centers, and innovating admissions and talent cultivation methods. Collaborations with top global universities and research institutions, support for high-quality research outcomes, and the expansion of international training initiatives will also be pursued to foster a well-rounded, global educational platform.
