10th China-Russia Advanced Economic Forum Held at RUC

The 10th China-Russia Advanced Economic Forum took place at Renmin University of China (RUC) in Beijing on Nov. 8, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Themed “High-Quality Belt and Road Cooperation and Deepening China-Russia Economic and Trade Collaboration,” the forum explored critical topics such as BRICS cooperation, high-quality Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) development, and collaboration in economic, financial, and cultural sectors.


Rector of Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management Pavel Anatolyevich Novgorodov, and Tatiana Ulzhumtseva, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in China and Director of the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, were among the distinguished attendees. The opening ceremony was chaired by RUC Vice President Zhi Xiaoqiang.

Lin Shangli, President of RUC, emphasized the forum's significance as a collaborative platform, jointly hosted by RUC and St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON), which has grown into a vital venue for academic, business, and policy exchanges between the two countries. He noted that this year’s theme reflects the opportunities for deepening China-Russia economic cooperation. Lin called for further efforts to enhance finacial and trade collaboration, strengthen cultural ties, and promote high-quality Belt and Road projects, contributing to a shared vision of a community with a shared future for humanity.

lgor Anatolyevich Maksimtsev, Rector of UNECON, highlighted the urgency of addressing global competition, financial security, and supply chain disruptions. He expressed hope for enhanced cooperation within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS, underlining the forum’s role in shaping the future of bilateral collaboration.

Tatiana Urzhumtseva, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in China and Director of the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, stressed the role of cultural exchange as a bridge in economic cooperation, noting that cultural confidence and creative industries are crucial for national prosperity. She hoped for a deeper dialogue between Chinese and Russian universities in education, culture, and economics.

The keynote session, moderated by Yu Chunhai, Executive Dean of RUC’s School of Economics, featured speeches by leading experts. Gorbashko Elena Anatolyevna, Vice Rector of UNECON, gave a speech on pathways for advancing China-Russia economic cooperation. Li Xiangyang, Dean of the Institute of Asia-Pacific and Global Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, gave a speech on strategies for high-quality Belt and Road development. Pavel Novgorodov, Rector at Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management (NSUEM), gave a speech on regional cooperation between China and Russia. Sun Zhuangzhi, Director of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies at CASS, gave a speech on joint efforts to enhance BRICS collaboration. Tkachenko Elena Anatolyevna, Professor at UNECON, gave a speech on financial cooperation and local currency settlements between China and Russia. Guan Xueling, Professor at RUC, gave a speech on upgrading BRICS cooperation mechanisms. Sofia Igorevna, Professor at UNECON, gave a speech on opportunities for economic cooperation within BRICS.

The forum also featured three parallel sessions addressing “Building Integrated Belt and Road Connectivity Networks” “Climate Change and National Energy Security” and “Youth Scholars’ Dialogue on China-Russia Industrial Cooperation”. Experts from renowned universities and institutions, including Central University of Finance and Economics, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, and Southern Federal University, participated in the discussions.

As a flagship initiative between RUC and UNECON, the China-Russia Advanced Economic Forum has become an essential platform for exploring bilateral economic models, fostering sustainable trade relations, and contributing to the broader transformation of China-Russia ties. By facilitating multi-dimensional dialogues, the forum continues to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations while promoting economic globalization and multipolarity on the world stage.
