The 2nd Mingde Zhuoyu Student Forum was held on November 16th-17th. This forum was guided by the Academic Affairs Office and the College Construction and Management Center, hosted by Mingde College, and co-organized by Xinmin College, Qiushi College, Chongshi College, Mingli College, and Yuanjian College. A total of more than 800 teachers and students participated.
On 16th, the opening ceremony of the forum was held. Lin Shangli, President of RUC, delivered an opening speech. Lin Shangli said that students are not only educated, but also academic researchers and academic innovators, and they must achieve the trinity of learning, research and innovation. This forum aims to explore the talent training mechanism of the full linkage of colleges, universities and research institutes, and promote students' cross-disciplinary, cross-college and cross-stage knowledge exchange and sharing of ideas. It is hoped that all young students in the university can be determined to learn and strive to grow into true humanities and social scientists with academic and scientific spirits.
This forum was divided into four major sections according to the training level: "Academic Book Reviews and Reading Reports", "Academic Paper Reports", "Academic Project Mid-term Defense", and "Excellent Dissertation Writing Experience Sharing".
At the academic book review sharing session, 15 students from the School of Philosophy, the School of History, the School of Journalism, etc. shared their experience of reading books and papers such as "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions", "The Craft of Historians", "Social Capital: A Theory of Social Structure and Action", "What is Life", "Beacon and Meteors: Literature and Culture of the Xiaoliang Dynasty", “Aristotle on Mimesis”, and "Eros and Civilization".
At the academic paper report meeting, 13 students from different colleges gave academic reports on topics such as legal philosophy research, painting imagery, history of the War of Resistance, epistemology, ancient Chinese literature, contemporary Chinese religion, and historical geography based on their respective professional fields.
At the mid-term defense meeting of the academic project, 11 teams reported on the progress of the project since its launch and introduced their future research plan of the project.
The sharing session on writing excellent dissertations invited Gan Juzheng, Lan Zhetong, Li Gefei, Wu Shiqiang, four authors who were awarded the 2024 Beijing Universities Excellent Graduation Thesis (Design) to share their valuable experiences from multiple dimensions such as topic selection strategy, data collection and organization, paper structure construction, writing skills, and how to effectively deal with challenges in the writing process.
This forum received a total of 83 academic works, and 29 teachers and 8 outstanding graduate students participated in the review in handwriting. Before the forum was launched, the college held 7 academic lectures and salons, covering book reviews, reading reports, and academic paper writing.
