On December 5th, Professor David Zilberman from University of California, Berkeley(UCB), presented an academic lecture titled "Frontiers of Bioeconomy and Resource Environmental Economics" in the Mingde Main Building, Room 930. The lecture was hosted by the Chair of the School of Agricultural Economics & Rural Development(SARD), Zeng Bingjian, and was attended by numerous faculty and students.
Professor Zilberman elucidated the core and characteristics of bioeconomy, detailing four types: green, blue, brown, and white bioeconomies, along with their practical applications. He emphasized the indispensable role of economists in policy-making, analyzing economic phenomena and policy implementation. In additional, Zilberman explained how economists support these areas through cost-benefit analysis, budget impact assessments, supply chain design, and developing effective financial strategies.
Alumna Jin Yanhong, a professor at Rutgers University and an alumna from SARD, engaged in deep interaction with the attendees. She shared her valuable academic research experiences and provided guidance on conducting scientific research for students and young faculty. Jin also shared her research on Watershed Ecosystem Compensation (WEC) policies, discussing their varied impacts across different regions and industries through agriculture, industry, and domestic wastewater treatment.
The lecture concluded successfully.
