Renmin University of China holds Honorary Professorship Conferment Ceremony for International Olympic Committee members

Vice President Yang Huilin began the ceremony by introducing the honorary International Olympic Committee (IOC) members and distinguished Renmin University faculty participants. Yang Zhanwu, Director of the Physical Education Department, then gave summarizations of the conferees backgrounds. President Chen Yulu conferred the honorary professorship certificates to the IOC members, followed by a speech thanking the IOC members for their hard work and contribution to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Each of the IOC members proceeded to address the audience about their respective topics. Mr. Ung Chang gave a speech on the importance of the Olympic movement, with a focus on China and Asia. Mr. Kevan Gosper spoke on the comparisons between the Beijing and London Olympic Games, hailing both as monumental achievements. President of the International Ice Hockey Federation, and IOC member, Mr. Rene Fasel lectured on the history of the Winter Olympic Games, highlighting the inception of various winter sporting events into the Olympics. Mr. Patrick Baumann gave a brief history of the game of basketball, explaining how the game was invented and has evolved over the years. Vice President Yang Huilin moderated a Q & A session between IOC members and Renmin University students, among the topics discussed were Chinese athlete’s success in individual sporting events and the popularity of basketball in China. Vice President Yang Huilin concluded the ceremony by thanking everyone involved, and congratulating Renmin University on its 75
th anniversary.
