Lin Shangli, President of Renmin University of China (RUC), met with Boštjan Malovrh, Slovenian Ambassador to China, to discuss strengthening educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Lin highlighted RUC’s commitment to global engagement and its role as the first modern university founded by the Communist Party of China. He emphasized the university's ongoing efforts to develop interdisciplinary programs, particularly philosophy, social sciences, and artificial intelligence (AI), to contribute to China’s independent knowledge system.
Lin hoped that Slovenian scholars and students would take advantage of RUC’s international initiatives, such as the "Qiushi Scholars" program, English-language summer courses, and the Belt and Road International Business School, to foster cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and Slovenia.
Ambassador Malovrh introduced the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), an AI-focused institution supported by UNESCO that aims to develop innovative tools and services to help member states achieve sustainable development goals. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening ties between China and Slovenia, particularly in higher education.
The meeting was attended by Zheng Xinye, Vice President of RUC, Wang Wen, Dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Zhang Damiao, Deputy Director of the International Office, and Gaoming Cong, Project Coordinator of the Slovenian Embassy in China.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Malovrh delivered a speech at the RUC Chongyang Regional and Country Studies Forum’s "Ambassador Lecture Series" titled How Small Countries Operate in the International System – The Case of Slovenia.
The forum attracted students and faculty from several universities, including RUC, Beijing Foreign Studies University, China Foreign Affairs University, and Beijing International Studies University. Government officials, corporate representatives, and journalists from leading Chinese media outlets such as China Central Television, Global Finance, and Beijing Daily also attended the event.
