The 11th session of the South Asia Sindhu Forum will feature the lecture titled "Global India’s Sikh Immigrants: Sikh Policemen and Revolutionaries in 19th and 20th Century Shanghai." The event will take place on Monday from 16:00 to 17:30 at Room 208, Mingde Business School Building.
The keynote speaker, Professor Cao Yin, associate professor from the Department of History at Peking University, will delve into the history of Sikh migration to Shanghai, focusing on their dual roles as law enforcers and political activists. Cao is a leading expert in global history and modern Indian history. His notable publications include Chinese Sojourners in Wartime Raj, 1942-1945 (Oxford University Press, 2022) and From Policemen to Revolutionaries: A Sikh Diaspora in Global Shanghai, 1885-1945 (Brill, 2018). His research has been featured in top academic journals such as the Journal of Asian Studies and Modern Asian Studies.
The event will be hosted by Cao Dejun,Associate Professor from the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China. Faculty members and students are welcome to attend and participate in discussions.
