2025.04.16

On April 10, Zheng Xinye, Vice President of Renmin University of China (RUC), met with Luis Leopold, Administrative Vice President of University of the Republic of Uruguay (Udelar), during his visit to RUC.

Zheng Xinye stated that Renmin University of China, the first modern university established by the Communist Party of China, is distinguished by its unique strengths in humanities and social sciences, as well as science and engineering disciplines such as artificial intelligence and big data. Since its founding, the university has prioritized talent development and research on critical global issues, cultivating a large number of professionals for national development and societal progress. RUC leverages its multi-campus integration and partnerships with districts and cities such as Tongzhou District in Beijing, Suzhou, Nanping, Shenzhen, and Yibin. Zheng noted that the university is currently organizing the "Ambassador Lecture Series" and warmly invited the Uruguayan Ambassador to visit RUC. He also expressed hope that faculty and students from Uruguayan universities would actively participate in RUC’s flagship programs, including English-taught degree programs, the International Summer School, and the Qiushi Scholars Program, to further enhance educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Luis Leopold remarked that despite the geographical distance between China and Uruguay, educational and cultural ties between the two nations are growing stronger. Amid the current complex and evolving global landscape, Udelar aims to deepen student and faculty exchanges and joint academic research with RUC in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and big data, as well as in agriculture, Latin American studies, and psychology. He also emphasized advancing higher education cooperation and people-to-people interactions with RUC to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the people of China and Uruguay.

Following the meeting, representatives from both sides discussed specific collaboration proposals and reached multiple consensus points.

Sebastián Bandera, Consul of the Uruguayan Embassy in China, accompanied the delegation. Representatives from RUC’s International Office, School of International Studies, School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, and Department of Psychology attended the meeting.
