On Dec. 12th, the national “energy economics” conference, hosted by the Renmin University School of Economics, met to discuss and prepare developmental subjects. Professors of energy economics from eleven units including Peking University, China University of Petroleum, Beijing Institute of Technology and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics gathered at RUC to discuss various solutions for the development and research of energy economics.
The meeting was divided into two sessions. Prof. Liu Rui, Deputy President of the School of Economics at RUC hosted the first session on “Energy Economics subject building”. Yang Ruilong, president of the School of Economics reviewed the development and current situation of the economics subject, and expressed his expectation in this session. Jin Leqin, Associate Professor of Energy Economics, introduced experiences of energy economics, training program settings and problems with energy economics undergraduate teaching.
Shi Tianyin, Deputy Director of Education Administration at RUC gave a speech and expressed the support for energy economics on behalf of RUC. Prof. Xu Jintao from Peking University, Prof. Yang Xiaoguang from China University of Petroleum all shared ideas on energy economics subject building and S&D achievement. Gao Xiaofei, an editor from RUC proposed several suggestions on the compilation of energy economics textbooks.Delegates participating in the conference agreed that energy economics in China was just in its initial stage. There is much room for improvement in the aspects of subject system building, major setting, textbooks, teaching faculty and course development. Currently, the lackluster development between divided universities is not scientific and cannot meet the society’s demand for energy economics talents.
The second session discussed the preparations for the development and construction of energy economics. Consensus was made to set up the National Energy Economics disciplines governing units and specialized committees, hold a 2013 Energy Economics Forum and open 2013 Summer Youth teacher training courses.
This meeting was very significant for establishing a negation mechanism among universities in Beijing of energy economics; further developing energy economics, promoting information sharing among the universities and improving the teaching and R&D quality for energy economics in China.
