Vice President Zheng Xinye Meets with Sergey M. Shakhray, Chairman of the Russian Education Council of the Chinese-Russian Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development

On April 9th, Zheng Xinye, Vice President of Renmin University of China (RUC), met with Sergey M. Shakhray, Chairman of the Russian Education Council of the Chinese-Russian Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, and his delegation.


Zheng Xinye stated that RUC has a long history of cooperation with Russian higher education institutions and places great emphasis on cooperation and exchanges with Russian universities. In the future, RUC will continue to leverage the coordinating role of the Secretariat of the Chinese Education Council of the Chinese-Russian Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, work closely with the Russian council, and jointly address challenges to global higher education development brought by technologies such as artificial intelligence.

 

In the new era of "Greater BRICS cooperation," Zheng noted, “RUC will focus on joint research on issues such as food security, energy security, and climate change to provide policy recommendations and solutions for the two countries.” Zheng also look forward to welcoming more Russian young students and teachers to participate in degree programs or short-term exchanges through its "Qiushi Scholars" visiting scholar programs of RUC and the integrated advantages of its multiple campuses, contributing more to the development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership and the friendship between the two peoples.

 

Shakhray remarked that the Chinese-Russian Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development was established at the initiative of the leaders of the two countries and enjoys strong support from both governments. Therefore, the education councils of both sides have a significant responsibility in promoting China-Russia cultural exchanges and educational cooperation. Looking ahead, China and Russia should fully utilize their respective academic strengths, strengthen cooperation in the field of humanities and social sciences through academic exchanges and mutual visits, and play a constructive role in the further alignment of China-Russia higher education systems to better serve the cooperation between the two countries in higher education.

 

Igor Pozniakov, the Education Attaché of the Russian Embassy in China and representative of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Alexander Druzhinin, Third Secretary of the Department of Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation, accompanied the delegation. Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the School of Economics, the Joint Research Institute on Russian Issues of Renmin University of China and Heilongjiang University, and the China-Russia Alliance of Journalism and Communication Universities also attended the meeting.
