RUC’s Delegation Visits Hong Kong

Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council of Renmin University of China (RUC), led a delegation on a four-day visit to Hong Kong from Apr. 13th to 16th, aiming to advance national education goals and strengthen collaboration between the university and various sectors in Hong Kong.

The visit, which coincides with China’s push to build a stronger education system, included meetings with central government representatives, alumni, academic institutions, and cultural organizations. Zhang emphasized aligning the university’s development with national strategies and fostering deeper integration with Hong Kong under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework.



During his meeting with Zheng Yanxiong on Apr. 15th, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Zhang discussed expanding cooperation in talent development, civic education, and academic exchange. He reaffirmed RUC’s long-standing ties with Hong Kong in joint education programs and student exchanges, committing to stronger efforts to support national unity and Hong Kong’s development.

Zheng praised Hong Kong’s progress in education and culture since the enactment of the National Security Law and expressed hope that RUC would continue to play a larger role in talents cultivating and social services.



Zhang also met with the new board members of RUC’s Hong Kong Alumni Association and celebrated the alumni’s contributions to Hong Kong society on Apr. 13th. He urged the association to continue acting as a bridge between the university and the region, fostering community ties and cultural exchange.



On April 14th, Zhang Donggang visited Bauhinia Culture Group in Hong Kong and met with Chairman Xu Zhengzhong. They agreed to deepen collaboration in cultural exchange, talent development, and cultural exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.

Zhang praised the Group’s role in promoting Chinese culture globally and emphasized joint efforts to share the stories of RUC, Hong Kong, and China. Xu highlighted the strong foundation between the two sides and looked forward to further cooperation in internships and academic initiatives.



On April 15th, Zhang visited Hong Kong Education University. The two universities signed a new cooperation framework agreement to formalize academic partnerships, joint talent training, and other aspects. The agreement marks a new phase of bilateral collaboration.


At the World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit, Zhang delivered keynote speeches at the Digital Future and Digital Finance forums. He stressed the importance of building a human-centered digital community and promoting inclusive, ethical technological development. He also called for stronger education systems that produce well-rounded talents capable of leading digital innovation and global cooperation.


During the summit, RUC released a research report on digital finance innovation in commercial banks, underscoring the university’s contribution to financial technology development.

To date, RUC has partnered with seven Hong Kong universities and several major cultural and business institutions. Over 3,000 RUC alumni are active across various sectors in Hong Kong. The university plans to further expand cooperation in education and cultural exchange, contributing to Hong Kong’s integration into the national development agenda and China’s modernization goals.
