On May 17th, the Inaugural National Undergraduate Stati was held at Renmin University of China. The forum aims to gather outstanding young talents majoring in statistics-related disciplines from universities across the country and build an academic exchange platform in the field of statistics for undergraduates.
Feng Shizheng, Vice-President of RUC; Xie Bangchang, former
Vice-President of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan; Li Zhenghui, Vice-Dean
of the School of Economics and Statistics at Guangzhou University; Deng Ke,
Tenure-Track Associate Professor of the Department of Statistics and Data Science
at Tsinghua University; Lin Wei, Director of the Statistics Teaching and
Research Section of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University;
Wan Jing, Huang Yishun, Yin Jianxin, and Guan Guohui and Wang Chunyan, as
representatives from different departments of RUC, also attended the forum.
Feng Shizheng stated that statistics is the key to decrypting the
data age, with a wide range of application scenarios in the fields of economy,
society, and science and technology, and has become an important tool for
promoting national modernization and global governance. Young students are the
future force for the development of the discipline of statistics. The holding
of this forum has built a platform for statistics students to exchange ideas,
spark wisdom, and make joint progress. He encouraged students to take advantage
of this forum to broaden their horizons through communication, enhance their
abilities through thinking, flexibly apply disciplinary knowledge to more
diversified research directions, stay true to the original aspiration and keep
the mission firmly in mind, and strive to become new - era statistics talents
with lofty aspirations, noble virtues, great talents, and a strong sense of
responsibility, thus gathering youthful strength for Chinese - style
modernization.
Li Yang said that the forum received active submissions from
outstanding students of more than 30 colleges and universities across the
country. He expressed gratitude to all sectors of society and fraternal
institutions that have long supported and cared about the innovative talent
cultivation in the School of Statistics of RUC. He encouraged students to take
this forum as an opportunity to clarify their learning interests through
ideological collisions and explore their academic strengths through exchanges
and mutual learning. It is hoped that this forum can become an important
platform for academic exchanges among undergraduates majoring in statistics -
related disciplines in national colleges and universities, and contribute to
the cultivation of top - notch innovative talents with solid professional
knowledge, a diligence in practice, and a courage to explore.
Huang Yishun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of
Statistics of RUC, read out the list of winners of the First National
Undergraduate Statistics Forum in Colleges and Universities. Since the release
of the call for papers, the forum has received attention and support from
colleges and universities across the country. After expert review, a total of
37 papers were selected. Xie Bangchang, Li Zhenghui, Deng Ke, Lin Wei, and Wan
Jing presented awards to the representatives of the award-winning students.
In the theme report session of the forum, 11 students including Li Dongjin from Capital Normal University, Lu Haokun from RUC, Liu Aimo from Jilin University, Yin Yueyang from Fudan University, Lu Hongbo from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, You Yile from Peking University, Wang Chenrui from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Lu Zhengke from Nankai University, Chen Jieying from Peking University, Yang Ting from RUC, and Xu Hanyu from Beihang University gave reports in turn. The participating experts and scholars put forward constructive guidance on the topic - selection direction, research methods, theoretical framework, and other aspects.
