African Francophone Officials Visit RUC Suzhou Campus
2025.05.27
On the afternoon of May 22, 24 officials from African Francophone countries visited the Suzhou Campus of Renmin University of China (RUC), engaging in in-depth exchanges with faculty and students. The event, part of the “International Exchange Series”organized by the Institute of France and Francophone Countries, featured fruitful discussions on topics such as China-Africa infrastructure construction, tourism resource development, and higher education cooperation.
During the exchange session, Zacharie Banda Fimbo, Dean of the Diplomatic Academy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, elaborated on China’s collaborative achievements in local infrastructure projects and Chinese language education. Estelle Fleur Angangou, Deputy Director-General of Gabon’s Ministry of Tourism, shared insights into Gabon’s tourism industry and warmly invited Chinese faculty and students to visit.
Students from the Sino-French Institute actively participated in the Q&A. Song Yu, a first-year student from the class of 2023, discussed a construction project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo involving his father with the visiting officials. Xia Zhengyang, a third-year student from the class of 2021, explored tourism development with Gabonese officials and received an invitation to visit Gabon after the event. Many students remarked that such face-to-face interactions added profound meaning to their language studies and offered them a fresh perspective on African culture.
The visiting officials praised the Suzhou Campus for its internationalized approach to education and the global outlook of its students. Dean Fimbo noted, “China’s efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind are worthy of emulation by African nations.” Deputy Director-General Angangou commended the students for “demonstrating remarkable cultural inclusivity.”
The event not only built a bridge for China-Africa youth exchanges but also planted the seeds of mutual learning among civilizations in the younger generation. As the organizers stated, “Today’s ‘hello’ paves the way for tomorrow’s ‘welcome back’; today’s handshake heralds future collaboration.”
