The Pioneering Talent Forum of Renmin University of China (RUC) was held
On the morning of May 17th, the Pioneering Talent Forum of Renmin University of China (RUC) and the Third Grassroots Youth Alumni Growth Forum were held.
The forum was jointly organized by the Admissions and Career Services Office, the Alumni Services and Resource Development Department, and the Education Foundation of RUC. It was themed “Leading the Way with Pioneering Spirits and Passing on the Torch,” aiming to promote exchanges among the university, alumni, and current students. The forum focused on sharing the practical experiences of alumni serving and taking root in grassroots communities, highlighting the exemplary and leading role of “pioneering talents,” and strengthening the development system for pioneering talents. It also aimed to build consensus, convey strength, and fulfill the university’s mission of nurturing talents for the Party and the nation.
The forum was presided over by Wang Yi, the Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Vice President of RUC.
Liu Xiangbing, a representative of the alumni and the Party Secretary of China Institute of Industrial Relations, delivered a keynote speech titled “Exploring the Code for Youth Talent Growth at the Grassroots Level from ‘Xi Jinping’s Seven Years as a Sent-Down Youth.’” He emphasized that President Xi Jinping’s seven years as a sent-down youth provide rich spiritual nourishment and set an exemplary model for youth talent growth at the grassroots level. He suggested that youth talents should focus on four aspects for development at the grassroots level: (1) strengthening political training and “fastening the first button of life correctly”(ensure that the first steps in life are taken in the right direction); (2) engaging deeply in grassroots practice, taking root among the people, and serving the community; (3) valuing learning and continuously improving personal cultivation; and (4) establishing a correct view of labor and actively practicing the mass line.
Alumni representatives, including Huang Wanding, Deputy Section Chief of the Policy Research Office of Yunnan Province and a graduate of the School of Public Administration (2017); Chen Ziyuan, the Party Secretary and Director of the Data Bureau of Shizuishan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and a graduate of the School of Finance (2017); Ren Jiawen, the Party Secretary of Donghuangshui Town, Yangqu County, Shanxi Province, and a graduate of the School of Information (2016); and Yang Mei, Deputy Party Secretary and Town Mayor of Shishi Town, Fushun County, Zigong City, Sichuan Province, and a graduate of the School of Agriculture and Rural Development (2020), shared their insights and experiences from working at the grassroots level.
Huang Wanding expressed that RUC has always been in line with the Party and the country. As an alumni representative returning to the alma mater, he deeply felt the university’s care for grassroots alumni and its high regard for grassroots work. He shared three insights: (1) maintaining integrity and staying on the right path; (2) being willing to endure hardship and take on responsibilities; and (3) being modest and cautious, integrating into the community, and engaging with the people.
Chen Zi said that the cultivation by his alma mater and the care from the organization have enabled him to make contributions in various positions. He shared three lessons he learned: (1) understanding the situation clearly; (2) taking responsibility; and (3) implementing tasks effectively. He expressed a strong sense of achievement and fulfillment from his grassroots work and pledged to continue to follow the university’s requirements, adhere to the principle of “seeking truth from facts,” and strive to be a “pillar of strength for national rejuvenation,” always moving forward in the forefront of the times.
Ren Jiawen emphasized that youth should take root in the land and write their responsibilities with their youth. She shared her practical experiences of working at the grassroots level, stating that grassroots work should be guided by the happiness of the people and that rural revitalization should be driven by innovation. She believes that grassroots areas are the closest to the people and the land, and one should be determined to work in the fields with “dirt on the body and mud on the feet,” writing a fulfilling youth in the grassroots fields and letting the flowers of ideals bloom where the country and the people need them most.
Yang Mei said that grassroots work contains the secrets of “China’s governance.” She shared her story of transforming her academic qualifications into practical experience and abilities through the “Dream Realization Program,” eight years of hard work in university, and her gratitude in giving back to her hometown. She shared three experiences from her grassroots work: (1) transforming “high academic qualifications” into “high emotional intelligence”; (2) turning the desire to do things into the ability to get things done; and (3) changing a “temporary” work attitude into a “lifelong” commitment. She also encouraged her juniors to become “seeds that take root downward” and grow strong in the grassroots challenges.
Representatives of the 2025 graduates from the “Pioneering Talent Launch Camp,” Mu Gongpei, a master’s graduate from the School of Economics, and representatives of the “Pioneering Talent Training Camp” students, Wu Shiyi, a 2024 master’s student from the School of Party History and Party Building, also spoke. They said that through their participation in the “Pioneering Talent Camp,” they had solidly improved their practical abilities and cultivated a working style of hard work and responsibility. In the future, they will carry forward the fine traditions, continue the red bloodline, remember the people-oriented principle of “seeking truth from facts,” and always uphold the spirit of “a university run by the Party can be trusted by the Party, and a university for the people will not disappoint the people.” Guided by the belief that “success does not necessarily require me, but success must have me,” they will bravely take the lead and strive to be pioneers in the vast grassroots areas.
More than 400 participants attended the forum, including over 60 grassroots alumni, representatives of the 2025 graduates from the “Pioneering Talent Launch Camp,” representatives of the “Pioneering Talent Training Camp” students, and faculty and student representatives from various provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.
