Vice Secretary Qinggeletu Leads a Delegation to Visit Hong Kong

In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the National Education Conference, to continuously implement the important speech of President Xi Jinping during his inspection of Renmin University of China, and to solidly implement the deployment and decision-making of the 15th Party Congress of the university, focusing on serving the national strategy on Hong Kong and Macao, and further deepening the university's exchanges and cooperation with all sectors in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, from May 20 to 21, Qinggeletu, the Party Committee Deputy Secretary of Renmin University of China, led a delegation to visit Hong Kong. During the visit, Qinggeletu was invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of Professor Dennis Lo as the ninth president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, visited the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, visited the Chinese Culture Institute, and visited representatives of the Hong Kong Alumni Association.


On May 20, Qinggeletu was invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of Professor Dennis Lo as the ninth president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Qinggeletu said that for a long time, Renmin University of China has attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In the future, it is hoped that the two sides will continue to deepen the connotation of cooperation in areas such as joint training, short-term exchanges, and academic research, strive to improve the quality of work, provide talent support and intellectual support for the economic and social development of Hong Kong and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and actively serve the national strategic needs and regional development needs.


On the afternoon of May 20, Qinggeletu met with representatives of the Hong Kong Alumni Association. Qinggeletu said that since the establishment of the Hong Kong Alumni Association of Renmin University of China in 1995, it has been committed to building a warm, in-depth, and powerful alumni exchange platform and has played the role of a bond between Hong Kong alumni and the alma mater. It is hoped that the Hong Kong Alumni Association will continue to carry forward the spirit of Renmin University, strive to tell the “Renmin University story” well, speak the “Hong Kong story” well, and continuously make the “Renmin University voice” heard. It is also hoped that the association will unite and rally Hong Kong alumni to serve the construction of the Special Administrative Region and support the development of the alma mater, and actively contribute to the steady and long-term implementation of “one country, two systems.”


On May 21, Qinggeletu visited the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and met with Wang Weiming, the director of the Department of Education and Science and Technology of the Liaison Office. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on pragmatic exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong, education and training, national conditions education, and talent cultivation. Guo Anzhe, a deputy director-level official from the Personnel Department of the Liaison Office, and relevant staff members from the Personnel Department, Social Work Department, and Department of Education and Science and Technology participated in the symposium.


Qinggeletu said that from the beginning of the establishment of Yan’an University, which was clearly proposed to cultivate “revolutionary vanguard,” to the proposal of cultivating “tens of thousands of cadres for national construction” at the beginning of the founding of New China, and then to the proposal of cultivating “pillars of national rejuvenation and pioneers of a strong country” in the new era, what remains unchanged is the original aspiration and mission of “cultivating people for the Party and talents for the country.” It is hoped that with the support and guidance of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, further communication and coordination will be strengthened, and exchanges and cooperation will be deepened. Through measures such as conducting classified and layered education and training, various forms of national conditions education, and expanding the scale of enrollment, more “patriotic and Hong Kong-loving” outstanding talents will be cultivated to contribute more Renmin University strength to the construction of a strong country and the rejuvenation of the nation.


Wang Weiming said that Renmin University of China, as the first new regular university founded by the Communist Party of China, has a glorious revolutionary tradition and a distinct red gene. It is unique in the field of humanities and social sciences in China. It is hoped that the university will face the social needs of Hong Kong, play its advantages and specialties, and continue to make efforts in talent cultivation, education and training, and social services to inject new kinetic energy into the economic and social development of Hong Kong and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


During the visit, Qinggeletu also visited the Chinese Culture Institute and exchanged views with President Qiu Yi on enriching the forms of education and training and strengthening the pertinence of education and training. The Chinese Culture Institute is committed to promoting Chinese traditions, introducing the development of contemporary China, taking root in Hong Kong, embracing the world, continuously enhancing the national identity of the younger generation, enabling Hong Kong people to understand the past, integrate the past and the present, and achieve the future, and letting the world listen to the voice of China, understand the development of China, and know the propositions of China.


Relevant personnel from the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs and the School of Continuing Education of Renmin University of China accompanied the visit.
