On Dec. 17, first show of Taipei – Beijing New Year Concert 2013 was held in Yi Fu Hall, Renmin University of China. Students and staff from Department of Music of both Taiwan Normal University and Renmin University of China gave the performance. Before the concert, Prof. Chen Yulu, president of Renmin University of China met with Zhang Guoen, president of Taiwan Normal University. Taiwan Normal University invited Renmin University of China, Peking University and Beijing Normal University to participate their performance in mainland, with the first show held in Renmin University of China. Professor Zhang Guoen, president of Taiwan Normal University, Professor Liu Xiangbing, vice-president of Renmin University of China and executive dean of School of Arts, Director Zhang Xiaojing of Office for Hongkong Macao and Taiwan, and over 500 students and staff watched the performance. Vice President Liu Xiangbing bit a warm welcome to Taiwan Normal University delegation. He said, artistic disciplines and music department in Taiwan Normal University is the best in the area. Two universities can enhance their friendship through communication. He expected the two sides reach more collaboration and bring it to a higher level. President Zhang Guoen expressed his expectation that people across the Straits develop closer relationship and pass care and bless by means of classic and popular music, thus compose a colorful and beautiful movement amid two cities and step into a fabulous 2014. The first item was Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons by Taiwan Normal University Orchestra. Then prestigious flutist You Yahui from Taiwan played Three Taiwanese aborigines Ballade, pianoist Yan Junjie from Taiwan played Piano Concerto No.5 in E flat major. In the end, Taiwan Normal University orchestra gave an extra performance – Radetzky March. In addition, staff from Department of Music, Renmin University of China played Woodwind Quintet and Dvorak: Piano Quintets. Yang Yi then sang in his rich baritone How Can’t I Think of Her and The River of No Return. In July 2011, Renmin University of China and Taiwan Normal University signed a memo of interscholastic collaboration. Two universities have achieved auspicious results in plenty of fields.
