RUC Ranks the Third in the Discipline Ranking of Chinese Universities

RENMINUNIVERSITY, 29 May 2014 (Via RUC English News): On May 27th, 2014, the website of Chinese alumni association issued its 2014 discipline assessment of Chinese Universities. Renmin University of China (RUC) ranks No. 3 among all universities of China, following directly after Peking University and Tsinghua University.  人大7 In this latest evaluation, nine majors of RUC rank the first, namely Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Law, Political Science, Sociology, Journalism and Communication, Statistics, Business Administration and Public Administration. In the field of humanities and social sciences, RUC possesses the most top-ranking first-tier disciplines among Chinese universities. Years bring wisdom. Established in 1937, the year of the Chinese Anti-Japanese Invasion War, which is a part of Asian battlefields of World War II, RUC is now one of the key research-oriented universities in China, focusing on arts and humanities as well as embracing disciplines of natural sciences. Zhao Deguo, CEO of Chinese alumni association website is also the head of the research team. Zhao said their discipline ranking of Chinese universities conferred to the China’s first-tier discipline assessment issued by the Ministry of Education in 2013, and combined the figures of distinguished alumni, faculty and academic research of respective majors. Founded in 2002,the Chinese alumni association website has been releasing such university rankings for 12 consecutive years and the rankings are considered as the most special, credible, influential and well-known. The report aims at offering guide and ad hoc advice for applicants who are to take the national college entrance examination, or gaokao. As the discipline classification method is different between universities in Mainland China and those in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the discipline ranking lists are made respectively. In this year’s list of Chinese universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the University of Hong Kong ranks NO.1, followed by NationalTaiwanUniversity and NationalChiaoTungUniversity.  (Transwritten by Qiu Feng, Fu Tingting, Xie Shen, Xue Jie.
