President CHEN Yulu Meets Former US President Jimmy Carter

On the afternoon of September 3
rd, Renmin University President Chen Yulu met with former US President Jimmy Carter and his wife at the university’s Century Hall. The pair later jointly held the second session of the G20 think tank forum on Renmin’s campus.
President Chen welcomed President Carter and his wife on the behalf of the university’s staff and students, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming G20 think tank forum. In his speech, he mentioned that the visit of 90-year-old President Carter has special historical significance because this year marks the 110
th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Deng Xiaoping who 30 years before, along with President Carter, had a vision for the future development of China that has now become a reality.
During his visit, Carter congratulated RUC on its noteworthy academic achievements and positive societal influence, noting that RUC was quickly turning into a world-class university. After reflecting on the improvements of US-Chinese relations stemming from Deng Xiaoping, Carter spoke briefly about the more than 100 million foreign students in the US. Carter expressed that the US and China are already enjoy harmony politically, economically, and culturally, with the links between the two countries much greater than the separations; and that he would strive to continue this long-term trend of mutually beneficial cooperation.
After the meeting, Carter delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the second session of the G20 think tank forum.
Global Chairman of the Global Alliance of SME’s, Former UNIDO Director-General, and Senior Fellow at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Carlos Magariños, Renmin University leaders Zhang Jianming, Wang Liming, Zha Xianyou, Yi Zhihong, and Hong Dayong, former Vice Minister of Commerce, Sun Zhenyu, former Vice President of Bank of China Limited and Executive Director of the International Chamber of Commerce, Zhang Yanling, and Deputy Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, Wei Benhua, were all in attendance.
Assistant President of Renmin University, Zheng Shuiquan, and other relevant department leadership also attended the meeting activities.
