RUC Physics Professor Ji Wei's research group on surface chemical reactions has made new progress
2014.11.23
Recently the RUC Department of Physics and a team led by Professor Ji Wei has been conducting a joint research paper with Professor and Nobel Laureate John C Polanyi and the Department of Chemistry and Institute of Optical Sciences at the University of Toronto entitled “How Adsorbate Alignment Leads to Selective Reaction.” It was published in the American Chemical Society publication
ACS Nano.【ACS Nano, 2014, 8 (8), pp 8669–8675;DOI: 10.1021/nn503721h】
Surface and interface modeling has been at the forefront of recent research in the field of physical chemistry. The study featured a two-state model ion (Ionic 2-State Model), that combined molecular dynamical modeling with scanning tunneling microscopy experiments. They showed that the surface chemical reactant adsorption configuration may determine the nature of the path as well as the electron-induced reaction products. Furthermore, they showed that STM studies combined with dynamical modeling can be seen as a way to improve understanding of the role of surface alignment in determining reactive outcomes in induced reaction at asymmetric crystalline surfaces.
